Ahsoka, the latest live-action series in the Star Wars universe, debuted on Disney+ on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. The show follows the adventures of Ahsoka Tano, a former Jedi who first appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. Rosario Dawson plays the role of Ahsoka, bringing the fan-favorite character to life on the small screen.
Ahsoka is set after the events of Star Wars: Rebels, where Ahsoka was last seen searching for her missing friend Ezra Bridger, a young Jedi who disappeared with the Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn in a hyperspace jump. Ahsoka’s quest leads her to face new enemies and allies, as well as old ones from her past. The show also explores Ahsoka’s connection to the Force and her role in the galaxy’s history.
The cast of Ahsoka includes Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, a Mandalorian warrior and graffiti artist who joins Ahsoka in her mission; Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, a Twi’lek pilot and leader of the Rebel Alliance; Lars Mikkelsen as Thrawn, a blue-skinned military genius and one of the Empire’s most formidable foes; Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, a Force-sensitive orphan who became Ahsoka’s friend and ally; Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, a ruthless magistrate who hired Ahsoka as a bounty hunter in The Mandalorian; Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, a fallen Jedi apprentice who works for Elsbeth; and Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, a rogue Jedi master who is hunting for Thrawn. Stevenson, who passed away in 2023, was honored with a tribute at the end of the first episode: ‘For Our Friend, Ray.’
Ahsoka is created by Dave Filoni, who also conceived the character with Star Wars creator George Lucas. Filoni is also an executive producer and director of the show, along with Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Michelle Rejwan. The show is written by Filoni, Favreau, Matt Michnovetz, Charles Murray, and Leslye Headland. The show features original music by Ludwig Göransson and Kevin Kiner.
Ahsoka is the third live-action Star Wars series on Disney+, following The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. The show is expected to have eight episodes in its first season, with new episodes releasing every Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can watch Ahsoka on Disney+ with a subscription that costs $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year, or a bundle that includes Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ for $12.99 per month.
