Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, is resting at home after he was discharged from the hospital following a cardiac arrest during a basketball practice at USC on Monday.
According to his doctor, Dr. Merije Chukumerije, Bronny James was successfully treated for a sudden cardiac arrest by the USC athletics’ medical staff. He arrived at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center fully conscious, neurologically intact and stable.
“Although his workup will be ongoing, we are hopeful for his continued progress and are encouraged by his response, resilience, and his family and community support,” Chukumerije said in a statement.
Bronny James, 18, is a rising basketball star and an incoming freshman at USC. He chose to attend USC over several other offers from top colleges. He was practicing with his team at the Galen Center when he collapsed on the court.
LeBron James, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, thanked the countless people who sent his family love and prayers on social media. He said his family is “safe and healthy” and that they feel the support from everyone.
“Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us!” LeBron James wrote. “I’m so grateful.”
