USA Today Sports writer Mike Freeman ranked the best fanbases in the NFL and split them into ten tiers. He placed the Dallas Cowboys fans in the second tier, along with the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New England Patriots fans.
Freeman praised the Cowboys fans for their loyalty, passion, and knowledge of the game. He also noted that they are “one of the most diverse fan bases in all of sports.”
The Cowboys fans have been supporting their team through thick and thin, even when they have not won a Super Bowl since 1996. They have also been filling up their home stadium, AT&T Stadium, which has a capacity of 80,000 seats.
The only fanbase that Freeman ranked higher than the Cowboys was the Kansas City Chiefs, who he called “the gold standard of fandom.” He credited them for creating a “raucous” and “intimidating” atmosphere at Arrowhead Stadium, and for being “loud, proud, and respectful.”
The Cowboys will face the Chiefs on Nov. 21 at Kansas City, in what could be a potential Super Bowl preview. The Cowboys are coming off a 12-5 season that ended with a heartbreaking loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the wild-card round. The Chiefs are looking to bounce back from a 31-9 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.
