Marvel fans are in for a treat as Deadpool 3 will feature the long-awaited return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, sporting his iconic yellow and blue costume from the comics.
The first official photo from the set of Deadpool 3 was shared by Jackman and co-star Ryan Reynolds on their Instagram accounts, showing Wolverine walking down a road with Deadpool, who also has a brighter version of his red and black suit.
This is the first time that Jackman’s Wolverine will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after his character died in 2017’s Logan. However, this seems to be a different iteration of Wolverine, as he has never worn this costume on the big screen before.
The yellow and blue suit is inspired by the one designed by John Cassidy for 2004’s Astonishing X-Men, with some modifications such as full sleeves and a red square on his belt buckle. The suit is also similar to the one used by the X-Men in Dark Phoenix, the last movie of the Fox franchise.
Deadpool 3 is currently in production, directed by Shawn Levy, who previously worked with Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project. The film will bring Deadpool from the Fox universe to the MCU, involving the multiverse concept.
The film will also feature returning cast members such as Morena Baccarin and Brianna Hildebrand, as well as newcomers Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen. Another surprise cameo will be Jennifer Garner as Elektra, reprising her role from Ben Affleck’s Daredevil and her own spinoff movie.
The filmmakers have assured fans that Deadpool 3 will maintain its R-rated edge, despite being a Disney movie. The film is set to open in theaters on May 3, 2024.
