Harrison Ford and Ke Huy Quan, who played Indiana Jones and his sidekick Short Round in the 1984 film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, had a sweet reunion at the premiere of Ford’s latest adventure, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
The two actors posed for photos together on the red carpet, smiling and embracing each other. Quan, who was 12 years old when he starred in the second installment of the franchise, told ET that he loves Ford and that he was excited to see him again.
“He’s like a big brother to me,” Quan said. “He taught me so much on set, not just about acting, but about life. He’s always been there for me.”
Ford, who reprised his iconic role as the archaeologist and adventurer for the fifth time, also had kind words for his former co-star. “He’s a great kid, he’s a great man now,” Ford said. “He’s done so well for himself. I’m very proud of him.”
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is the first film in the series since 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The plot revolves around a mysterious artifact that can alter time and space, and that is sought by a sinister organization. Ford said that the film brings the franchise “full circle” and that he had a lot of fun making it.
“It’s a great story, it’s a great adventure, it’s got a lot of humor and heart,” Ford said. “It’s a tribute to the fans who have supported us for so long.”
The film also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Antonio Banderas, Boyd Holbrook, and Thomas Kretschmann. It is directed by James Mangold and produced by Steven Spielberg, who helmed the first four films. It is set to hit theaters on Dec. 17.
