A judge has ruled that a car repair shop owner in Georgia who paid a former employee with 91,500 oily pennies must pay nearly 4 million more cents.
Miles Walker, who owns A OK Walker Autoworks in Peachtree City, was sued by nine workers for unpaid overtime and damages.
A federal judge found him liable and ordered him to pay $39,934, plus attorney fees and costs.
One of the workers, Andreas Flaten, made headlines in March when he received his final paycheck of $915 in pennies covered in motor oil.
He said Walker had a history of being abusive and unprofessional, and that he quit his job in November after enduring months of harassment.
Walker denied any wrongdoing and claimed he paid Flaten in pennies because he was ‘a weenie’.
Flaten said it took him and his girlfriend more than three hours a night for two weeks to clean the pennies, which weighed more than 500 pounds.
He eventually deposited them at a bank with the help of Coinstar, a company that offers coin-counting machines.
Coinstar also gave him a $1,000 bonus and donated $1,000 to two charities of his choice.
