A Harris County sheriff’s deputy is in critical but stable condition after being shot multiple times during a traffic stop on Wednesday night.
The deputy, identified as Joseph Anderson, 29, was patrolling on Homestead Road near Beltway 8 when he pulled over a blue Ford Escape around 7:40 p.m., according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Within a minute, 911 dispatchers received calls about the deputy being injured. Gonzalez said Anderson was shot at least twice and underwent surgery shortly after the shooting.
The suspected shooter is Terran Green, 34, who fled the scene with his brother James Green, 37, who was a passenger in the car. A Blue Alert was issued for both men, but James Green was later cleared of any involvement and released after being questioned by authorities.
A Blue Alert is issued to help catch people who are believed to have wounded or killed local, state or federal law enforcement officers.
Terran Green remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. He is described as a Black man who is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477 or the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at 713-221-6000. Up to $45,000 is being offered for information that leads to his arrest.
"We hope this case comes to closure very quickly. I have full confidence in my @HCSOTexas team and all public safety partners assisting us. It's just a matter of time before we capture Green," Gonzalez tweeted on Thursday.
