Tennis star Naomi Osaka and rapper Cordae have become parents to a baby girl, the WTA announced on Monday.
The 25-year-old Japanese, who has won four Grand Slam titles, gave birth to her daughter in Los Angeles last week. A source close to the couple told People that both mother and baby are “doing well”.
Osaka and Cordae, who have been dating since 2019, revealed their pregnancy news in January with a series of photos on Instagram. In June, they shared more pictures from a princess-themed baby shower, hinting that they might choose “something more unique than traditional” for their baby’s name.
Osaka has not played competitively since the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo in September 2022. She took a five-month break from tennis last year after her US Open title defence ended in the third round. She said she was struggling with depression and anxiety and wanted to focus on her mental health.
She is planning to return to action in time for the 2024 Australian Open, a tournament she won in 2019 and 2021. She also said she wants to win gold at the Paris Olympics next year.
Osaka is currently ranked 436th in the world. She was the former world number one and the highest-paid female athlete in 2020 and 2021.
