The Powerball lottery is offering one of the biggest prizes ever in its next drawing on Wednesday, July 12. The jackpot has grown to an estimated $725 million, making it the seventh-largest in the game’s history and the ninth-largest in U.S. lottery history.
The huge prize comes after no one matched all six numbers in the Monday night drawing. The winning numbers were 2, 24, 34, 53, 58 and the Powerball was 13. The cash option for the jackpot is $366.2 million before taxes.
Powerball tickets cost $2 each and can be purchased in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, according to Powerball.
While no one hit the jackpot on Monday, more than 1.5 million tickets won smaller prizes totaling about $14 million, Powerball said. Two tickets sold in California and Iowa matched five numbers and won $1 million and $2 million respectively. The Iowa ticket had the Power Play option, which doubles the prize for an extra $1.
The last time someone won the Powerball jackpot was on April 19, when a ticket sold in Ohio matched all six numbers and took home $252.6 million. There have been 35 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner since then.
The Powerball jackpot is not the only big lottery prize up for grabs this week. The Mega Millions jackpot stands at $480 million for Tuesday night’s drawing, or a cash option of $240.7 million. That’s the 14th-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history and the 18th-largest in U.S. lottery history.
Mega Millions tickets also cost $2 each and can be bought in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302.5 million, according to Mega Millions.
Both Powerball and Mega Millions have gone months without jackpot winners since April, creating a rare opportunity for lottery players to win big prizes in both games.
