Robin Roberts, the co-anchor of Good Morning America, and her fiancée Amber Laign, a massage therapist, are getting ready to tie the knot next month after 18 years of dating. The couple met on a blind date in 2005 and have been through many ups and downs together, including Roberts’ breast cancer diagnosis in 2007 and Laign’s breast cancer diagnosis in 2022.
On Wednesday, August 16, their colleagues and friends threw them a surprise bachelorette party on the GMA set, with a Key West-inspired theme. The party featured tropical decorations, a cake with their initials, and a special appearance by Extra correspondent Tommy DiDario, who jumped out of the cake.
Roberts and Laign were greeted by cheers and hugs from their guests, who included ABC News veterans Deborah Roberts, Diane Sawyer, Gayle King, Juju Chang, and Roberts’ sister Sally-Ann Roberts. They also received video messages from celebrities like Niecey Nash-Betts, Carla Hall, Oprah Winfrey, and Michelle Obama.
Roberts expressed her gratitude and joy for the celebration, saying that she never imagined she would have a bachelorette party on national television. She also praised Laign for being her rock and her soulmate. Laign said that she was overwhelmed by the love and support they received, and that she was looking forward to their wedding day.
The couple has not revealed the exact date or location of their wedding, but they said it will be a small and intimate affair with their closest family and friends. They also said they plan to honeymoon in Key West, their favorite place to relax and unwind.
