Raheem Sterling scored twice as Chelsea claimed their first Premier League win under Mauricio Pochettino with a 3-0 victory over newly promoted Luton Town at Stamford Bridge.
The England winger opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a low shot from inside the box after a neat pass from Hakim Ziyech. He doubled the lead in the 50th minute with a header from a Reece James cross, before Ziyech added a third in the 68th minute with a curling effort from the edge of the area.
Chelsea dominated the game from start to finish, creating numerous chances and limiting Luton to few opportunities. The visitors’ best chance came in the 77th minute when Harry Cornick forced a save from Edouard Mendy with a volley from close range.
The result lifted Chelsea to fourth place in the table with six points from three games, while Luton remained in 18th place with one point.
Pochettino, who replaced Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea manager in July, praised Sterling’s performance and said he was happy with the team’s improvement.
“Raheem was fantastic today, he showed his quality and his hunger to score goals. He is a very important player for us and I’m delighted for him,” he said.
“We played well, we controlled the game and we scored three beautiful goals. We are still adapting to our ideas and our philosophy, but I can see the progress and I’m satisfied with the performance.”
