The 75th Emmy Awards nominations were announced on Wednesday, July 12, with HBO’s Succession leading the pack with 27 nods, tying the network’s record for most nominations in a single year.
The drama series, which follows the power struggles and family drama of a media empire, earned nominations for outstanding drama series, outstanding lead actor in a drama series for Jeremy Strong and Brian Cox, outstanding supporting actor in a drama series for Kieran Culkin, Matthew Macfadyen and Nicholas Braun, outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for Sarah Snook, and outstanding writing and directing for multiple episodes.
Succession will face stiff competition from other acclaimed dramas such as The Crown, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, Better Call Saul, Yellowjackets and The Bear.
In the comedy category, Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso scored 20 nominations, including outstanding comedy series, outstanding lead actor in a comedy series for Jason Sudeikis, outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed and Jeremy Swift, outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple, and outstanding writing and directing for multiple episodes.
Ted Lasso will compete against other popular comedies such as Barry, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Only Murders in the Building, Shrinking, Abbott Elementary and Wednesday.
In the limited series category, Amazon’s Daisy Jones & The Six surprised many with nine nominations, including outstanding limited series, outstanding lead actress in a limited series or TV movie for Riley Keough, and outstanding supporting actress in a limited series or TV movie for Camila Morrone.
Daisy Jones & The Six will vie for the top prize against other acclaimed limited series such as Mare of Easttown, The Queen’s Gambit, The Underground Railroad and WandaVision.
The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on Sept. 18 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The ceremony will broadcast live on Fox at 5 p.m. PT/ 8 p.m. ET. The host of the ceremony has yet to be announced. The two-night Creative Arts Emmys are scheduled for Sept. 9 and Sept. 10.
