Taylor Swift surprised her fans with a new music video for ‘I Can See You’, one of the ‘From the Vault’ songs on her re-recorded album ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’.
The video, which Swift wrote and directed, features her ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner and actress Joey King as her accomplices in a heist to rescue Swift from a vault where she is trapped with her framed cover art of ‘Speak Now’. The trio face lasers, guards and fights in a museum in a metaphorical representation of Swift reclaiming her music from her former label.
Swift debuted the video on July 7 at her show in Kansas City, Missouri, where she was joined on stage by Lautner, King and Presley Cash, who plays their communications director in the video. She thanked them for their participation and praised their performances.
‘Joey and Presley had been in the video for ‘Mean’ when they were 9 and 13 and they are back and so ridiculously bad ass!!’ Swift tweeted. ‘Taytay is INCREDIBLE in this (didn’t have a stunt double!) and shout out to Tay Lautner for being so awesome to hang with on set.’
Lautner, who dated Swift briefly in 2009 and inspired her song ‘Back to December’, also expressed his admiration for Swift. ‘I respect you so much. Not just for the singer you are, the songwriter, the performer — but truly for the human you are,’ he said on stage. ‘You are gracious, humble, kind and I’m honored to know you.’
‘I Can See You’ is the first video from ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’, which is the third of six re-recorded albums that Swift is releasing to regain ownership of her master recordings. The album features 21 songs, including six previously unreleased tracks.
