Tennessee eliminated Stanford from the College World Series with a 6-4 win on Monday, thanks to a dominant relief outing by Chase Burns.
Burns pitched six shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out nine batters. He entered the game in the third inning after starter Chase Dollander gave up four runs on six hits.
Tennessee scored two runs in the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie, with Pete Derkay hitting a sacrifice fly and Jordan Beck driving in a run with a single.
The Volunteers also got home runs from Liam Spence and Luc Lipcius, who hit his 16th of the season.
Stanford’s Brock Jones hit a three-run homer in the first inning, his third of the tournament. He also had an RBI single in the third.
Tennessee will face Texas on Tuesday in another elimination game. The winner will advance to play Mississippi State in the semifinals.
Stanford finished its season with a 39-17 record, making its first appearance in Omaha since 2008.
