Travis Scott has finally delivered his highly-anticipated fourth studio album Utopia, which marks his first solo full-length release since 2018’s Astroworld. The album features a star-studded lineup of guest appearances, including Beyoncé, Drake, The Weeknd, SZA, Kid Cudi, Future, and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon.
Scott had been teasing Utopia for months, sharing snippets and hints on social media and during live performances. He had also planned to perform the album at a special livestreamed concert at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt on July 28, but the event was canceled due to “complex production issues”, according to Live Nation Middle East.
Instead, Scott released a trailer for his upcoming film Circus Maximus, which is produced by A24 and written and directed by Scott himself. The film will “take his audience on a mind-bending visual odyssey across the globe, woven together by the speaker rattling sounds of his highly anticipated upcoming album Utopia”, according to AMC. The film will be available at select AMC theaters on July 27, July 30 and Aug. 1-2.
Scott also unveiled six different album covers for Utopia, which were photographed by Pieter Hugo and Kristina Nagel. Some of the images are distorted, while others channel a zombie apocalypse. “The journey thru the album took me all over the world and can’t wait to finally drop the album,” he wrote on Instagram earlier this week. “The main cover will drop Thurs. Until then a cover everyday. Love u see u in Utopia.”
Utopia is the follow-up to Astroworld, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and included the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single “Sicko Mode”, featuring Drake, which not only became Scott’s first No. 1 hit but also an RIAA diamond-certified single two years after its release. Astroworld was also nominated for best rap album at the 2019 Grammy Awards.
Utopia is available to stream on all major platforms now.
