West Ham end Brighton's perfect start with 3-1 win

West Ham United came from behind to beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, ending the hosts’ perfect start to the Premier League season.

Brighton took the lead in the 12th minute when Solly March scored his third goal in as many games, curling a low shot past Lukasz Fabianski from the edge of the box.

But West Ham equalised just before half-time, as James Ward-Prowse marked his 100th Premier League appearance with a stunning free-kick from 25 yards.

The visitors took control of the game in the second half, and went ahead in the 67th minute when Said Benrahma headed in a cross from Jarrod Bowen.

West Ham sealed the victory in stoppage time, as Bowen broke away on the counter-attack and squared the ball for Michail Antonio to tap in his fourth goal of the season.

The result lifted West Ham to fourth place in the table with seven points from three games, while Brighton dropped to sixth with six points.

“We showed great character to come back from a goal down and win the game,” West Ham manager David Moyes told Sky Sports. “We played some really good football and created a lot of chances. I’m delighted with the performance and the result.”

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi was disappointed with his side’s display, especially in defence. “We were not good enough today,” he said. “We conceded three goals from set-pieces and counter-attacks, which is not acceptable. We have to improve a lot in this aspect.”
