West Ham United have ended Brighton and Hove Albion’s perfect start to the season by beating the host 3-1 in the English Premier League on Saturday.
The Hammers scored three goals in the second half to overturn a 1-0 deficit and claim their first win of the campaign.
Brighton took the lead in the 28th minute when Solly March curled a superb shot into the top corner from outside the box.
But West Ham equalized in the 54th minute when Jarrod Bowen headed in a cross from Vladimir Coufal.
The visitors then took the lead in the 66th minute when Said Benrahma volleyed in a rebound after Robert Sanchez saved a shot from Michail Antonio.
Antonio sealed the victory in stoppage time with a powerful strike from a tight angle, his fourth goal of the season.
West Ham moved up to fourth place in the table with seven points from three games, while Brighton dropped to sixth with six points.
The result was a surprise as Brighton had won their first two games and had not lost to West Ham in their previous eight meetings.
West Ham manager David Moyes praised his team’s performance and said they had improved from last season, when they finished sixth and qualified for the Europa League.
“We played really well today. We showed a lot of quality and we were clinical in front of goal,” he said.
“We have got a good squad and we have added some players who can make a difference. We have got more confidence and belief than last year.”
Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi was disappointed with the defeat and said his team had made too many mistakes.
“We started well and we scored a great goal, but then we lost our concentration and we gave them too much space,” he said.
“We made some individual errors that cost us the game. We have to learn from this and improve our defensive solidity.”
